About Wood
Wood is a natural material, with variations in color, texture and figure. These variations are influenced by the natural growing process and are uncontrollable by the woodworker. The color of wood within a tree varies between the sapwood (the outer layers of the tree which continue to transport sap), which is usually lighter in color than the “heartwood” (the inner layers in which the cells have become filled with natural deposits). Various species produce different grain patterns (figures), which influence the selection process. There will be variations of grain patterns within any selected species. The architectural woodworker cannot select solid lumber cuttings within a species by grain and color in the same manner in which veneers may be selected. Color, texture and grain variations will occur in the finest architectural woodworking.

Our only complaint were the plastic screws that came with the switch plates. They weren't very strong.

Switch plates Covers

My husband is an electrician so we added some atypical outlet/switch combinations and we could not find plates to cover them. The 4 toggle switch plate was great for the bathroom where we had 3 lights and a fan. In the kitchen, we had to change the outlets and switches to rockler style to be able to get switch plates that would work but at least we had a relatively easy solution. The quality seems good. My only disappointment was that the plates were darker and redder than I wanted. The kitchen cabinets are white oak with a natural stain and I was hoping the plates would match more closely. They work ok with the cabinets so we kept them. We plan to buy more to finish out the kitchen. They are on the expensive side. There were cheaper options but without seeing and feeling those other switch plates, it was hard to tell from a photo if the lower price was worthwhile.

We could not find a two toggles / single outlet switch plate that matched our bathroom cabinets. We thought we would have to settle on a plastic one and paint it the wall color.
